JonesMillbank and Nine Tree Studios are now BLANKET. Same team, same services - just a clearer proposition and an open door to collaboration.
Our story
As we hit 15 years, it felt like the right time for a refresh - something that better reflects who we are and what we do today.
Back in 2011, we needed a name that gave us room to grow. We were doing a mix of copywriting, design, and film, so we landed on “JonesMillbank”, our founders’ surnames.
It did the job. Like many agencies - McCann, Ogilvy, Wieden+Kennedy - it was intentionally vague (and they too sound like accountants or legal firms).
We refreshed the brand in 2018, but eight years on it no longer felt right.
Then in 2023, we opened Nine Tree Studios - our 10,000 sq ft film studio. The name was deliberately separate, but also fairly rushed; we had a building that needed a sign within six months.
Ultimately, neither name was right to take forward.
The reposition
Over the last two years we’ve had countless studio clients who don’t know we offer production or kit rental, and so have, without us knowing, struggled to source everything they’ve needed.
Similarly, many of our production clients, prospects and partners don’t know we have a studio - until we explicitly tell them.
The reason for keeping the brands separate no longer exists, and we needed a new name to bring everything together.
Something that worked for films, studios, and rental.
The new name
So what’s in a name? Not much - but also, a lot.
We wanted something confident, bold, and distinctive - something that wouldn’t just blend into the background.
It needed to be easy to spell and pronounce, and flexible enough to grow with us.
Most importantly, it had to feel right.
And we sat with “BLANKET” for six months to be sure.
It’s tactile, warm, and human, but also strong, both visually and phonetically. And it reflects our holistic approach to production, studio, and rental.
The typemark
Whilst we developed the name and brand in-house, we had a huge amount of support and feedback from our friends and peers (notable shout-out to Lewis Clark).
Typemark-led, we settled on Gilroy Heavy with some adjustments.

The ‘folded corner’ device is a nod to the name, whilst also reflecting our dual offering (films and studios), and you’ll see this used in both the typemark and brand.

It allows the “B” to standalone on social and merchandise whilst retaining the brand element.
The brand colour
Our old magenta was ‘so 2018’.
The slight but important shift to coral keeps the brand in the same area of the colour spectrum, but with a warmer, more human and more heritage tone.

It stands out alongside our peers - one of the reasons we didn’t want to default to black.
What it all means
We’re the same team, same clients, same service - but there’s also been some subtle adjustments in the background.
A refreshed set of values better reflect who we are and want to be.
And at the heart of that is collaboration.
As our projects have grown, so has the need to collaborate.
Larger productions - both on location and in the studio - mean we’re working more with specialist freelance talent than ever before.
And with increasing demand for dry hire, we’re regularly asked to support with crew - from camera ops and gaffers to HMU, catering and runners.
That demand is only going to grow.
